Lift-off hinges are known by many names: detachable hinges, loose joint hinges, slip joint hinges and take-apart hinges.
Regardless of what you call them, they all perform the same function. They allow you to remove a cabinet or door from its frame quickly and easily—without having to completely unscrew and remove the hinge.
Lift-off hinge usage
This type of hinge is particularly useful for businesses that receive frequent deliveries and/or large deliveries. Rather than installing a non-standard sized door (or going through the hassle of having a door custom-made), installing lift-off hinges allows you to remove the door for large deliveries.
Being able to lift off a door is also convenient during heavy traffic times where frequent door openings would cause wear and tear on a normal hinge.
What makes a lift-off hinge?
The design of lift-off hinges makes them so easy to use. The design includes two leaves—one male and one female. The male leaf holds the pin and is attached to a stationary surface. Female leaves don’t have a pin and are mounted to the door. Therefore, the lift-off hinge works by lifting the female leaf from the male leaf’s pin.
